Kahana Canoe Club was created in
1975 by a group of families who
owned oceanfront land in Kahana.
The group was known as the
Naleieha Hui.
It was the dream of Isabella
Naleieha, the matriarch of the family,
that the group might pull together in
the face of modern development,
social upheaval, and possible
displacement. To do this she
decided to form a canoe club. The
idea was to provide an activity that
all family members could participate
in, while at the same time
perpetuating the Hawaiian Culture.
