Kahana Canoe Club was created
in 197
5 by a group of families
who owned oceanfront land in
Kahana.  The group was known
as the Naleieha Hui.
It was the dream of Isabella
Naleieha, the matriarch of the
family, that the group might pull
together in the face of modern
development, social upheaval,
and possible displacement, by
developing a canoe club.  The
idea was to provide an activity
that all family members could
participate in, as well as
perpetuate her memories of how
things used to be.
